Abstract

The purpose of the National MS Society’s mentor-based fellowship program is to recruit and train talented scientists in rehabilitation research specific to multiple sclerosis (MS). The focus of this program is on three areas of inquiry associated with rehabilitation of individuals with MS: enhancement of performance of functional tasks involving upper extremities, control of posture, and gait. The fellowship program provides selected scientists with rigorous training in rehabilitation research specific to MS through a combination of didactic coursework and the supervised completion of a research project(s). Each trainee is carefully mentored through the program to ensure that he/she fully exploits the range of opportunities of the program and becomes an independent researcher entering the MS rehabilitation field.
